More WiFi consolidation

Further to the last story about T-Mobile offering all you can eat WiFi to its cellular subscribers for $20/mo, Verizon will offer all you can eat WiFi to its broadband DSL subscribers for free in the NYC area. I like this way more.

I think how they're doing this is really stinky though. Verizon owns all the pay phones, see. Also, lots of places under Verizon control that aren't Manhattan don't even have an abundance of pay phones nowadays. This is being marketed as an innovative fix, but it's really just a stupid solution. I'm delighted that Verizon is finally getting serious about wi-fi (to my detriment, they are my wireless provider), but their sudden on-the-ball-ness is going to help anyone outside of a handful of cities, they need to get back to the towers.
