Philips announced a new device at Comdex for Home Entertainment--a wirelessly connected component (via 802.11b/a) that will make content stored on PCs accessible to existing AV components in the home. Things that can't listen and talk to other things are boring now. Lose the convergence. Get on the network.
"The buzzword is not convergence, but connectivity--getting devices to talk to one another," said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst with Jupiter Research. "Consumers resoundingly rejected convergence, so these companies have to be careful about making devices easy to use. Kiam to Kittycats says they're also using the Zero|Conf/Rendezvous standard in there as well.
